Your blog traffic doesn't convert to signups
Offer a downloadable resource (checklist, template, spreadsheet) in exchange for an email on your highest-traffic posts.
When to use
You have blog posts with meaningful traffic that aren't converting to signups.
Hypothesis template
If we add [content upgrades] to our top [X] blog posts, we'll capture [target] emails/month because content upgrades convert 5-15% of readers.
Method
The problem: Your blog gets traffic but readers leave without signing up. There's no bridge between "reading a post" and "trying your product."
How to do it:
- Identify your 5-10 highest-traffic blog posts
- For each, create a related downloadable: checklist, template, cheat sheet, or spreadsheet
- Add a callout box in the post: "Get the free [resource] →"
- Require email to download
- Follow up with a 3-email sequence introducing your product
- Track: content upgrade conversion rate, email-to-signup rate
Key insight: A generic newsletter signup converts at 1-2%. A content upgrade specific to the post converts at 5-15% because it's directly relevant to what they're reading.
Success metrics
- •Content upgrade conversion rate
- •Emails captured per month
- •Email-to-product signup rate
- •Top performing content upgrades
Prerequisites
- High-traffic blog posts
- Downloadable resources to offer
- Email capture and follow-up system
Common pitfalls
- •Using the same generic lead magnet on every post
- •Making the download irrelevant to the post topic
- •Not following up with captured emails
- •Gating the blog content itself behind email (only gate the bonus)
