You built something great but nobody knows about it
Product Hunt can drive thousands of signups in a day if you prepare properly. Most launches fail because people wing it.
When to use
You have a working product, ideally with some early users who love it, and you want a big visibility boost.
Hypothesis template
If we prepare a strategic Product Hunt launch with [pre-launch community], [demo video], and [launch day plan], we'll get [target] signups because PH rewards prepared launchers.
Method
The problem: You need a burst of early users and credibility but have zero marketing budget.
What Loom did: Launched on Product Hunt with a polished demo video showing the product in action. Got 300k+ signups. Became #1 product of the day.
Why most PH launches fail:
- No preparation (just post and pray)
- Bad timing (launching on a day when a big company also launches)
- No community ready to upvote
- Generic description that doesn't hook people
How to actually do it:
- 2 weeks before: Build a list of 50-100 people who will upvote on launch day (friends, early users, Twitter followers). Don't ask for upvotes directly—ask them to "check it out"
- 1 week before: Create a compelling 1-2 min demo video (Loom-style, showing real usage)
- Launch day: Post at 12:01 AM PST (that's when the day starts). Have your tagline, description, and first comment ready
- First comment: Tell your story. Why you built this. Be human, not corporate
- All day: Respond to every comment within minutes. Engage genuinely
- After: Follow up with everyone who commented. They're your warmest leads
Key insight: PH is a community, not an ad platform. Genuine engagement beats growth hacking tricks.
Success metrics
- •Total upvotes
- •Signups from PH

- •Traffic spike duration
- •7-day retention of PH users
Prerequisites
- Working product with good UX
- Demo video or GIF
- A community of 50+ people who will support launch

Common pitfalls
- •Launching without preparation
- •Asking for upvotes explicitly (against PH rules)
- •Launching on a crowded day
- •Not engaging with comments
- •Treating it as a one-time event instead of a launchpad
