You have happy users but zero social proof

Reward users for public reviews

Your users love the product but haven't told anyone. A small reward turns happy users into public advocates on the sites where buyers compare tools.

ReferralBeginner
1-2 weeks of outreach, reviews trickle in over 2-4 weeks

When to use

You have happy users (high NPS or positive feedback) but little public social proof. Best for B2B SaaS where buyers check review sites before purchasing.

Hypothesis template

If we offer [reward] for honest reviews on [platform], we'll get [target] reviews because happy users just need a nudge to share what they already think.

Method

The problem: You have users who send you nice emails and say they love the product. But your G2 page has 2 reviews, your Capterra listing is empty, and prospects have no way to verify you're legit.

What the playbook is: G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius actively encourage review incentives—G2 gives $25 gift cards per review. For SaaS founders, offering a free month, extended trial, or feature unlock in exchange for an honest review is standard practice.

The result: Products with 10+ reviews on G2 get 3x more demo requests than those with fewer. On Capterra, products with reviews rank significantly higher in category searches. 92% of B2B buyers are more likely to purchase after reading a trusted review.

How to do it:

  1. Identify your 10-20 happiest users (high NPS, frequent usage, or positive support interactions)
  2. Email them personally: "Hey [name], would you mind leaving an honest review on G2? We'll give you [reward]"
  3. Make it easy: send the direct link to the review form, not just "go to G2"
  4. Offer something real: free month, feature unlock, extended limits, or a gift card
  5. Ask for honest reviews—never script them or ask for 5 stars
  6. Once you hit 10+ reviews on one platform, move to the next one

Key insight: You don't need 100 reviews. You need 10 good ones on the platforms where your buyers search. That's achievable in a single week of outreach.

Success metrics

  • •Reviews collected per platform
  • •Average review rating
  • •Referral traffic from review sites
  • •Demo requests / signups from review site visitors
  • •Conversion rate of review site traffic

Prerequisites

  • At least 10 genuinely happy users
  • Accounts on G2, Capterra, or similar review sites
  • A reward you can offer (free months, credits, gift cards)

Common pitfalls

  • •Asking for 5-star reviews (feels slimy and violates platform rules)
  • •Offering rewards too small to motivate (a 10% discount won't do it)
  • •Sending mass emails instead of personal outreach
  • •Not providing direct links to the review form

Source: Industry standard. 10+ reviews on G2 = 3x more demo requests.
