Users leave after free trial without trying your best features
Before the trial ends, show users which Pro features they haven't tried yet. Many will extend or convert after discovering something new.
When to use
You have a time-limited trial and can track feature usage per user.
Hypothesis template
If we email trial users about [untried features] before trial ends, trial conversion will increase by [target]% because users discover value they missed.
Method
The problem: Trial users only try 2-3 features. They never discover the feature that would make them convert. The trial ends and they leave thinking "it was okay."
How to do it:
- Track which Pro features each trial user has and hasn't used
- 2 days before trial ends, send: "Before your trial ends, you haven't tried these:"
- List 2-3 specific features with one-line benefit descriptions
- Include a one-click link to each feature
- Add: "Want more time? Reply and we'll extend your trial"
- Track: email engagement, feature discovery, trial extension requests, conversion
Key insight: The user who converts tried 5+ features. The user who churns tried 2. The "features you missed" email closes that gap.
